Kohler Adds New Gaseous, Diesel Mobile Generators

Kohler Power Systems is aggressively launching new models of power generators targeted to rental companies. At The Rental Show last month, the company announced two new diesel models and a new gaseous-fueled compact generator, which can easily switch between on-board LP fuel tanks and external LP liquid, LP gas or natural gas fuel sources.

Kohler’s 145REOZT4 and 175REOZT4 diesel mobile generators "offer the flexibility to address any application (rental) customers would need,” said Steve Zielke, Kohler Power Systems marketing manager. Both are EPA-emission certified for non-road use, powered by John Deere Tier 4 Final 6.8L engines, and come with a DOT-certified trailer and durable enclosure. The engines  offer enhanced fuel efficiency through an Integrated Emissions Control System, which uses cooled EGR, exhaust filter and SRC, resulting in high power density, high torque and lower fuel consumption. The engines provide uninterrupted operation with passive regeneration.

Kohler 175 REOZT4Other features include:

  • Heavy-duty air cleaner with restriction indicator
  • Fuel tanks sized for 24-hour runtime
  • External emergency stop
  • Stainless steel door latches and hinges
  • 110 percent environmental containment for fuel, oil and coolant
  • Two-way fuel valve to easily switch from onboard to external fuel source
  • Three position selector switch
  • Four types of convenience receptacles
  • A cold weather package
  • Easily removable housing with no external wiring to remove
  • A convenient single-point lifting eye

The Kohler Decision-Maker 3500 digital controller provides user-friendly displays and keypad functions, plus advanced network communications for remote monitoring.

The 30REZGT gaseous model is eligible for incentives of $1,000 to $3,500 from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and can help reduce users’ fuel costs by 15 to 20 percent* compared to diesel fuel (based on a price of $3.95/gal for diesel and $1.70/gal for LP, as published in December 2013 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.)

The 30REZGT (30 kVA) features a 3-liter industrial powertrain engine, features optional on-board LP tanks, built for a 24-hour run time, while connection to an external LP or natural gas supply offers extended usage.

In addition to being more cost effective than diesel, LP burns cleaner, allowing Kohler mobile generators to produce fewer toxins and less smog-producing carbon monoxide than diesel generators. The 30REZGT is certified for prime power and standby applications by the Environmental Protection Agency, and certified by the California Air Research Board, which sets strict air quality standards.

The 30REZGT is easy to service with its patent-pending enclosure, offering straightforward access to all parts without disconnecting wires. In addition, the mobile generator includes a fluid containment system for engine fluids. All Kohler generators come with a standard three-year limited warranty.

Kohler debuted its new line of mobile generators a year ago. Designed with customization in mind, the line offers a choice of fuel, a wide range of engine sizes, and custom receptacle connectors. When fully released, the line will include 11 diesel gensets ranging from 35 kVA to 680 kVA and four gaseous gensets ranging from 30 kVA to 125 kVA.
